As a young neurosurgeon, Dr. Haid became aware of the limited knowledge then available about the spine.
In typical, self-effacing fashion Dr. Haid refers to himself as a "fix-it" guy with a knack for recognizing simpler solutions to complex problems. He sums up his personal philosophy as a belief that the best teachers, best coaches, and best educators are people who can take extremely complex problems and simplify them to fundamental concepts. This philosophy has guided his career, and led to many innovations and inventions.
In his spine fellowship year, Dr. Haid's lateral mass fixation device received FDA clearance. It was the first of a series of inventions and innovations.
Currently, Dr. Haid is working on an improved version of the Prestige Artificial Cervical Disc, and continuing development of posterior cervical, thoracic, and lumbar fixation systems, as well as a minimally invasive direct lateral lumbar fusion device which should be introduced in 2010.
